OpAphid creator and Lonelygirl15 writer-director Glenn Rubenstein grew up in Petaluma, California.

A town 35 miles North of San Francisco, located in Sonoma County, Petaluma’s population is is between 55,000 and 60,000 residents.

Once counted among that number was Mesh Flinders, who also grew up in Petaluma, and is one of the creators originally behind the popular online series Lonelygirl15.

Glenn and Mesh attended different high schools in Petaluma, and lived on opposite sides of town. Mesh is also three years younger than Rubenstein. However, both frequented the Phoenix Theater, a popular concert venue and hang-out located in downtown Petaluma, and both had mutual friends and acquaintances in various local bands.

But for the better part of a decade, Mesh Flinders and Glenn Rubenstein weren’t aware of one another’s existence – let alone their mutual interests in the world of film making or online video.

Flinders and Rubenstein were originally introduced through their work on the OpAphid-LG15 series crossover, and the two never actually met until that crossover expanded into a greater collaboration. Beyond his work on OpAphid, this also saw Glenn Rubenstein contribute as a Lonelygirl15 writer-director, before going on to create the original online video series REDEARTH88.
